Mills Night

Many windmills in Kaag and Braassem deserve to be in the spotlight. During the Molennacht on Saturday 13 September 2025 we will actually take care of this. Extra activities are organized at a number of windmills.

Molennacht: for just one evening a year, the windmills color the landscape!

During Molennacht (Windmill Night), a record number of windmills are illuminated for one evening, creating a colorful, almost fairytale-like backdrop. Take an atmospheric walk on Saturday evening, September 12, hop on your bike, or enjoy this unique spectacle from the water.

Along the route, a new, beautifully illuminated windmill awaits around every bend. And from the water, the magic becomes even greater when the colors dance in the reflection. Head out with your own boat, walk or cycle on your own, or book a ticket for one of the various tours. 🎟️ Book your tickets quickly, because sold out means sold out.

With this campaign, Kaag en Braassem Promotie aims to literally put the windmills in the spotlight to emphasize their importance in the landscape.

Activities

Molennacht is free to visit on your own. However, you can also join our organized walking, cycling, or boat tours. On all tours, you will visit one or more windmills.

Guided walking Tours

Molennacht Walking Tour with Guide in Rijpwetering
Start time: 8:30 PM. A route of about 7 km over unpaved paths and over stiles. A true experience!

• * These mills are not open to the public during the evening.
• Preferably come by bike
• Most mills cannot be reached by car with the exception of the Vlietmolen in Hoogmade, you can park your car at the football club MMO.
