An enjoyable bike ride of about twenty-five kilometers normally wouldn't take an entire day. If you come across four ferries along the way, it may very well be. One huge advantage: time-consuming suddenly becomes tranquil, taking your bike across the water... In Kaag & Braassem, many people take it for granted, even for the locals it remains special!

We've chosen the island of Kaag as our starting point. An idyllic spot to begin our journey to tranquility. From the island, we'll take the bike ferry to Oud Ade. A truly memorable experience, as this route takes you across the Kagerplassen (a.o.) the journey will take quite a while. Keep in mind that you might have to wait a bit: only a limited number of people are allowed on the ferry per trip, and you might have to spend another pleasant lap around the island. Once on the water with our bikes in hand, it's a pleasant ride before the real work begins: enjoying the scenery along the meadows.

One down, three to go...

In Oud Ade, you cycle via Hoogmade to Roelofarendsveen, where another ferry awaits at the Paddegat (between junctions 32 and 33) to take you to Woubrugge. Via Rijnsaterwoude and Leimuiden, you'll reach the ferry to Oude Wetering (between junctions 19 and 21). From here, you return to Kaag via Abbenes and the ferry service from Buitenkaag. Crossing the water four times by bike might have a few small hurdles. One is that you have to pay a small fee when taking the ferry. Another is that, despite the tranquility, keeping an eye on the time is essential as some ferries simply have specific start and end times.
